You're Only 65 Once

Last Sunday 7/19 was Grandpa Decker's birthday and he went to a Nationals game to celebrate the 6-5 milestone. The game was a real stinker with the home team falling to the Cubs 11 to 3 - biggest highlight was eating a 'Rough Rider' from Teddy's BBQ... think brontosaurus sized beef rib. The really special moments of the day were pre- and post-game visits with James. Take a look at the proud grandparents in action.

  1. What a great innovation for recording James's family biography-a vedio imbedded social networking blog dedicated to perserving personal history in such a vivid way. [G_d help us to use this technology wisely; let us not forget fellow bloggers that there is a vast difference between accessable information regarding life and the wisdom to use it prudently.]

James, we are so proud of your Mom and Dad. They have been so patient and attentive to you as they have guided your journey into this ever changing world. I recall how excitedly proud Mark was to announce (as they hosted your families gathered at their home on "M" street NE last Thanksgiving Day)that yours was indeed the anticipated second heartbeat they had so hoped would be beating along side your Mom's. As he announced that news all those present were shocked with pleasent surprised; and so full of excitement: the whole house errupted in a clamourus chorus of pure joy!!! Now nearly eight months later, that joy surrounding new life has been fulfilled by your very presence. Your breath alone affirms for us the hopes of every new generation in this progressive cycle of life.

Now folks, myself having waited patiently until my 65th birthday to first hold a grandchild of my own, please forebear and forgive my verbosity!

James, I can't imagine how you might chronicle the birth of your own grandchild one day; but, when you do, please whisper it for me into the heavens. Whatever is left of my soul then will, I am sure, marvel once again at your message--just as I do now.

Thanks Mark for sharing this rememberance with us and with James.
