It's Official

As Mark can attest, nearly every day I ask, "Does that count as crawling? Did you see that?" James is still trying out different techniques, but I feel confident reporting that he is officially a crawler. Sometimes he does a bear-walk, sometimes he kind of hops like a bunny bringing both knees forward together at the same time (so cute!), and sometimes he does a more traditional hands-and-knees crawl. He still does a lot of pivoting on his belly and will push with his feet and slide on his belly to go the last few inches toward wherever he's going...but more often than not, his belly is off the floor. So far James has found the corner end table where we have our speaker system set up (think lots and lots of cords), the cats' water bowl and the cord for a tall floor lamp. As Grandma IJ said, "Let the games begin!"

I've been trying to capture his efforts on video, but he stops as soon as he sees me...this is the best I could gather for now:
James and I are also having some nice dinners together. I bought some baby cereal puffs that dissolve quickly in James' mouth and he loves them! He still doesn't like the feeling of food at the back of his tongue, but he's quickly getting over it as he eats one puff after another and then cries for more. He's now eating a healthy helping of baby food every night for dinner and usually something at lunch time, too. Yogurt is our gateway food - he'll tolerate nearly anything mixed with it...and so we have some interesting meals of carrots and banana yogurt, squash and vanilla yogurt, sweet potatoes with apple yogurt...all with some puffs to keep James distracted from the spoon.

And finally, a bonus video: This is James and his Daddy with their regular Saturday morning dance-off to Boom Boom Pow. Enjoy!

  1. My face hurts from grinning during Boom Boom Pow...and Uncle Jerry watched it too! We loved James' moves...especially the 'walk'! Quite the dancer. Can't wait to see him live and in person.

I'll be baby proofing my house too! Think he'll fit through the kitty door?

    Love, Grandma IJ

  2. He won't fit into any small spaces with the way he's growing! I'm sure we'll be able to keep an eye on him just in case.
