Over the bridge and through the farms...

...to Grandma IJ's house we go!
We finally took James to Delaware for his first visit at Grandma IJ's house - she's been waiting 9 long months!

We left on Friday night with James in his pajamas and woke bright and early at Grandma IJ's (we got to sleep in a little while Grandma and James played with tupperware and homemade toys.)

On Saturday after James' first nap, we headed out to Cape Henlopen State Park.  They had bikes available to borrow, so (on Mark's insistence) we took a short ride.   James was strapped into a cart on the back of Mark's bike and had his own pint-sized helmet.  On the ride we came across a number of people packing up their horses after some kind of event.  A couple of young ladies let James say "hi" to their horse;  he was a bit uncertain but not afraid.  After the ride, we took a short walk up to Fort Miles and took in the view from the top.  Late in the afternoon, we played outside in the yard on a toddler slide that Grandma had.  One of Grandma's neighbors stopped by and introduced her doggy, Treasure, to James - who took his first puppy "kisses" in stride.

Cousin Eric was in town a visit from Jacksonville and came over to visit James. We've charged him with taking news of James' brilliance and cuteness back to Florida as the first of the Karlin clan to see him in person. Eric spent the day exploring on his own but joined us for a fabulous steak dinner on Saturday night.

On Sunday, we went out after James morning nap to Grandma IJ's park, the Lewes Canalfront Park which has a tot lot with playground equipment scaled for little ones. James was still too small for most of the rides, but he loved the swing! No surprise there; he lived in his infant swing for the first 4 months.

Then we had lunch in Lewes, visited IJ's friend Gretchen in the store, and went back for an afternoon nap. On our way out of town, we stopped for pizza - another first for baby James. Looks like he's up for a slice of sausage with mushrooms the next time we go out for a pie!

Thank you, Grandma IJ for a beautiful weekend!
