Fall Birthday Trip

For many years, Mark and I have had a tradition of going leaf-peeping in Appalachia near my birthday.  Since James so small last fall, we skipped our trip. So we were especially excited to get back on the horse and back on the road. Knowing that our usual cruising of Skyline drive would have to be curtailed for more activities and less driving, we planned ahead and hoped for the best. It turned out to be a wonderful family trip - we drove during nap time and when James was awake we hiked, walked, picnicked, and visited apple orchards. The season for pick-your-own was mostly past, but at one farm near Charlottesville there were still some apples on the trees and on the ground. Just try keeping James away from a loose apple! It was a really sweet way to spend a few days with my boys.
