Soul Man

Today on the way home from our father-son swimming class at the Deanwood Recreation Center we stopped at a nearby McDonald's for a well earned lunch treat.

This is east of the Anacostia River an area that I don't know at all. It is true we did end up buying a meal for a struggling young man (it was his 20th birthday) and we did get requests from at least two other men, but all in all it was a very pleasant experience. The staff were extremely friendly and many of the other patrons waved, smiled, and generally appreciated seeing a three year old boy thoroughly enjoying his Happy Meal.

What made it all the more meaningful was the short walk after lunch to the corner of Burroughs and Sherif where stands the large mosaic of Marvin Gaye seen here. I had been planning to stop there on the right day since driving past it to and from the first six classes.

Apparently this is the start of the Marvin Gaye Park Trail which leads from this location to a larger park that I located on the map. This snowy and gray January day was not the time to extend our exploration but I'm definitely keeping it in mind for weekend adventure when the weather warms up.

These pics also gave me a little chance to flex my photo editing app. Enjoy!
