A Room of His Own

Boy, is it easy to fall behind with our postings. So much has happened over the past couple of weeks...

Starting after his two month pediatrician appointment, I put James in his crib for naps. Before this, his only experience with the crib has been to watch the mobile or the jungle music soother while I took a bathroom break. Then, in preparation for going back to work, I started putting him to sleep for the night in his own room. It seems so far away even though it's just next door!

I guess it was inevitable, but the drool has started in earnest. James is starting to soak the front of his clothes with the seemingly infinite flow.

On the 19th, James held a toy on his own for the first time (I didn't have to close his hand around it). He's really getting interested in what his hands can do! That day was jam packed, starting with the Farmer's Market for James and I while Mark went to the CHNNA neighborhood association meeting. Then we walked through the H St Festival on the way to meet two families from our birth class for lunch at the Argonaut. James and I had gone to lunch once before with Jennifer (and Peter) and Jamie (and Walker) but this time the Dads could be part of the fun.

On Wednesday, September 23 James and I picked up Grandpa Decker at his office in Alexandria for lunch with Great-Great Aunt Ruth and her friend Harry (visiting from the Left Coast) at Willow near Mark's office in Ballston. James was (thankfully) very well behaved throughout the whole meal! (It helped that I've learned to order something I can eat with one hand so I can attend to him as needed!) The next day, James rolled over from his back to his tummy for the first time - and upset himself with this development. He hates tummy time! I helped him back over onto his back, but he promptly rolled to his tummy again. He did it again the next day, but hasn't since then.

On September 26th, Uncle Grim and the Averys came to see us. Katherine brought James a beautiful handmade quilt of green palm frond batik fabric with a circle of frogs quilted onto it. Perfect for James!

  2. Love the updates! James continues to be precious and is really getting big and strong. We love our Uncle Grimtastic too - Brian is a HUGE fan of "Matt and Tania" - his favorite visitors. Miss you guys, looks like you're really enjoying your community as parents - I'm so glad you're finding your village. xoxoxox
