A Christmas Blessing

It was planned for months...the big sojourn to Michigan for Christmas. We wanted to share baby James with Mark's extended family and James' only great-grandmother. Many people travel with infants all the time - but to us, for the first time, it was daunting. Yet, lo and behold, James again stepped up to the plate and gave a stellar performance! Not a peep from him during take off or landing on either leg of the journey. Yay!

What a week! On Thursday evening after just a short time settling in to the condo, we set out for Marty and Rose's Christmas Eve party. As usual, we spent Christmas day at the farm (where Santa Baby made an encore appearance!) with some 25+ members of the clan (Deckers, in-laws, out-laws, and ex-laws.)

On Saturday evening we visited at cousin Dougie's house for another evening get-together. Then, on Sunday, we had James blessed in the family church by the very same elder who blessed Mark almost exactly 33 years ago! It was a nice moment for us as a new family and revived sweet memories for those of Mark's family who remembered his blessing. After church, we had lunch at Saint Clair hotspot Voyageur (Jame's first time in a high-chair!) and then went to cousin Jenny's house for dessert. Mmmm...loved that chocolate cake! James got to try out a jumper and entertained us all with his excited expressions and russian-style one-legged kicks.

By Monday, we were slowing down, trying to let James catch up on some much-needed sleep, and looking ahead to the trip home on Tuesday afternoon (made more complicated by the Underwear Bomber's shenanigans on Christmas Day). It was a great trip and we're so glad we were able to come and spend the time with everyone!
