Creepy Crawly

Baby James is on the cusp of a new mobility...tummy time now involves practice crawling - mostly backwards, but making some forward progress - and lots of rolling from tummy to back and then to tummy again. He's also reaching for things - my coffee mug, the cell phone, the spoon during feedings - and is motivated to "go get it" during these practices. The old frustration with being stuck on his belly is replaced by frustration that his progress toward the goal is too slow.

I guess it's getting time to start working on baby proofing since I expect he'll be getting around more efficiently soon! One challenge is the basement door since the cats have their litter box in the basement bathroom. We decided to get an electronic cat door that is activated by a magnet on their collars - thus keeping James out but allowing Shayna and Pumpkin to come and go as they please. The door arrived by mail this week; now we just need to get it installed. Next up - gates for the main staircase, outlet covers, and cabinet locks.

Update on feeding: We're both getting better at it, but it still involves a lot of fussing and is ALWAYS done right before bath time. To date, he's accepted bananas, sweet potatoes, sometimes peaches, teething biscuits, apple slices (just to mouth between bites of food), and surprisingly, prunes. On the "yuck" list - acorn squash, carrots, and green beans.

  3. Ah, the remote, the ultimate in baby motivation! We love prunes over here, too. They're awesome mixed with apples and oatmeal!

  4. I could hardly breathe as I watched him try to get that remote! I was pulling for him all the way! With persistence, you usually get what you want!
